I didn't even remember today was Leap Day until about 2 pm, when I was at the video store around the corner. After I went on a walk along the East River, I stopped at the grocery store up the street from me to pick up some food and milk. I was heading back to my apartment when, on a whim, I walked into the video store to see if they had "Lost in Translation" in. They did, but since I wasn't a member I had to leave a credit card imprint. As I signed it, I asked the clerk what the date was, and he said it was the 29th. So, here I am now on my extra day of the year. Have I made good use of it? Well, I went for a long walk this morning...that's not something I normally do. Check next to exercise! Other than that, let's see. I've done a lot of sitting. A lot of eating. A lot of avoiding chores. Really, it's been like any other day. So much for making good use of it! The only other thing I've done productively is post here. I couldn't let the 29th go by without a post.
I'm sitting here watching the Academy Awards right now. At this point, only eight awards have been presented. Eight! The show freaking started at 8:30 here. I am going to be up so late tonight. I am in an Oscar contest with The Boyfriend's family, and right now The Boyfriend is beating me by one point. Damn it! I have pride on the line because I won the contest last year. I have to repeat! I think that I might have to go to bed before the show is over. I don't think I can stay up past midnight tonight. I've had a headache for the last two days that just won't go away. Funny, I got it right when TB left yesterday.
I'm pretty bummed that The Boyfriend is gone. The two weeks he was here went by so fast, I can't believe it's already over and he's back in California. It was so great to have him here. I know I'm going to see him again in two weeks when I'm in LA, but I just enjoyed having him here so much. It was so nice to have someone to walk around the city with, to cook for, to ride on the subway with. I get really jealous when I see couples out and about, being all couple-y. I am glad I got to enjoy that with TB, and at a leisurely pace. I miss him already!

Ever since I moved out here to NYC, my family and friends have been sending me things. This is anything from Jax sending me mail to Woodsy & Hardcore bringing me a burrito to The Boyfriend lugging out my guitar. I love getting these things because it reminds me that there are people all the way across the country that are thinking of me. My parents are the champs of the package. I think my mom was secretly sad that Ky and I didn't go to school far away so she could send us elaborate packages. My parents have snet me my favorite chips that I was craving, holiday decorations, and magazines. They also send me cards, all the time. I love getting home from work, opening my mailbox, and seeing a card from home inside. Yesterday, I was blessed with a funny Valentine that held a new friend. That's right. A finger puppet. I called my parents to thank them, and my mom told me that she'd sent the card weeks ago and since I hadn't received it she'd assumed it had been lost in the mail. I assured it that I'd received both the card and the puppet, and that they were both in good condition, although the puppet was a little smashed. I promised my mom that I would never let him out of my site, and I brought him to work today to enjoy "Take Your Puppet To Work Day."
This is Ocho O. Otto, Octopus.
Ocho had never been to an office before, let alone one so swanky and full of energy. Needless to say, he was shy at first. He was worried that everyone would look at him and be like, "Yo, you're an ocotopus." Then my friend Will Ferrell came to visit. Ocho immediately warmed up to him - who wouldn't? Here he is posing with Will outside my office (Will doesn't like it when I don't take his calls).
Here Ocho shows that he knows how to fight on. He'd put up the victory sign, but he has no fingers. He'd also like to say he's pissed at Mike Williams for going pro early. Boo! Mike Williams, you most definitely are NOT Gangsta.
In the office we were blessed with the presence of the Chairman. He doesn't come in very much. Ocho asked him if he would pose for a picture, and the Chairman obliged. Ocho is coming out of his shell!
After the excitement of the morning's visitors, I needed to get some work done. Ocho offered to help me.
Ocho manned the iPod, making sure the tunes were funky-fresh.
Upon exploring my office, Ocho stumbled upon my decorative Guinness bottle. I told Ocho not to drink it, but when my back was turned, he must have...
...because the next time I saw him, he was passed out in my Easter candy. Oh, Ocho, you bad boy.
Luckily, he woke up from his drunken nap in time to get some batting pointers from Shawn Green. Shawn shows Ocho how to swing through the ball. Too bad Ocho is right handed.
Ocho is a college graduate! It's true. He's actually in med school, studying to be an Ophthalmologist. Until then, he has to beg to pay the bills.
To blow off a little steam, Ocho put on some dance music and boogied down.
Ocho spies my box of Reese's Swoops!
Ignoring the potential dangers, Ocho makes a break for it and starts to eat my Swoops!
I get back from a meeting and spot Ocho eating my Swoops. I can't believe he'd betray me like that!
I can't believe he'd betray me like that. Look! He makes my frown lines so deep! He needs to get away from my peanut butter chocolate crack! He's going to pay!
I had to punish Ocho for trying to eat my sweet, delicious peanut butter chocolate crack. How else would he learn?

That was Ocho's fun day at the office! Can't wait to watch the Oscars with him!

Mardi Gras! Woo! It's actually becoming quickly apparent that Mardi Gras is not as big a deal out here in NYC as it is in Hermosa. Granted, Hermosa is a beach party town where everyone parties all the time, parties all the time, parties all the time. But I don't understand why there isn't more going on tonight for Fat Tuesday. This weekend The Boyfriend and I were in Little Italy and all the stores and restaurants were decorated for Carnivale...maybe we'll have to go down there! Well, no matter what, TB and I will be raising a Hurricane or three to celebrate Fat Tuesday.
My weekend was good! TB and I went to a Tennessee Williams play on Friday, "Cat On a Hot Tin Roof." It was good! I had never seen the movie or read the book, so I went in with a clean slate and I liked it. Now I can say I've seen a Broadway play in addition to the musicals. I'm so sophisticated now. We got there JUST as the play was starting, and we were surprised to find that our seats were not together! Luckily, a nice usher took pity on us and showed us to new seats in a private box! Not too shabby. Now I'm really sophisticated! The cast was full of famous people: Ashley Judd, Jason Patric, and Ned Beatty. Ashley Judd, however, had injured her ankle in a show last Tuesday so she was limping around the stage. This morning she announced that she has to drop out of the play because she needs to have surgery on her ankle! Turns out she tore a ligament! We got in just in time, because now the future of the play is uncertain. On Saturday we went to China Town and Little Italy, which are right across the street from each other. We ate at a yummy place in Little Italy called La Mela Ristorante where there is no menu - the waiters just bring out food! We also bought a bootlegged copy of "50 First Dates" on DVD in China Town. It was totally filmed "Rochelle, Rochelle" style like on Seinfeld, on a video camera! But for only 5 bucks, what can you expect?!
The rest of our weekend was pretty mellow. I made dinner, we hung out, watched "Sex and The City," the usual weekend activities. We kept trying to do laundry but we were thwarted by repairs. We finally got some loads done this morning! Tonight, before our Mardi Gras fun, The Boyfriend is coming over to my office so I can take him to a work function. It's snowing outside, so the city is very calm right now. Am I dressed for snow? No. But TB is sweet and is bringing me a knit hat to keep my head warm. Your body loses most of its heat through the head, you know.

I have found a new sugary-goodness-wreck-my-teeth-and-make-me-fat snack food candy thing. Reese's Swoops. Oh my God, people. They are the best thing I have ever tasted. Many times I have found myself across the street at the Duane Reede, looking for a sugary snack to help me through my day. Usually I get something like Twizzlers or Red Hots, but never again. Swoops, for those of you who do not know, are shaped like potato chips and come in a variety of flavors. There is the plain chocolate flavor, the York peppermint patty flavor, and the Reese's peanut butter flavor. I chose the Reese's, and I do not regret it. They are the perfect shape for your mouth, like a Pringle. This flavor has a squiggle that goes down the middle that my tongue tells me is peanut butter flavored but I intuitively know contains crack. Imagine the taste of Reese's Pieces infused with the addictiveness of crack in the delightful shape of a chip: you have Reese's Swoops! Excellent.
I am in a crazy hyper mood right now. I know part of it is the sugar/crack...or maybe all of it. I have been reading this site and it's been cracking me up. So, between Natalie's weird humor and the sugar/crack mixture, you'd think that would be enough, right? Oh no. My iPod has decided to randomly play the most awesome music. Right now? I am rocking out to "Hurricane" by Bob Dylan. Oh yeah! "Here comes the story of the Hurricane, The man the authorities came to blame for somethin' that he never done!" Dude, people, he could-a been the champion of the world. Before that, it was Journey, just the way I like it, just the way I need it. It doesn't get much better!
Tonight The Boyfriend and I are going to see, "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." Ashley Judd, Jason Patric, and
Ned Beatty are in it. Should be a good show. I just hope I can come down from my crack high! Oh yeah! I said crack high! If I don’t, I think The Boyfriend will kill me. Good times!

You know when you look at the clock, and then you look a little while later, but it actually isn't a while later, it is, in fact, several hours later, and you wonder where the time went, but then you get excited because you realize that the time has flown by and you will get to go home soon, and you remark on the phenomenon to your co-workers wondering if the time flew by for them, too? Today is not one of those days for me. Yesterday was, though. Yesterday, tons of crap went wrong and work and I was so tense waiting for everything to be fixed that the day was over before I knew it. Today...well, things have been just as crappy, but the Time Fairy is effing with my head! I got out of a meeting this morning that felt like it had lasted for at least an hour...only to find merely 25 minutes had passed. I thought that surely it must be time for my mid-afternoon snack, but it was simply time for lunch. I hate days like today. I hate, I hate, I hate.
However, I love that The Boyfriend is here! We have had a splendid time so far, I must say. On Friday we went to see Rufus Wainwright at The Beacon Theater, on Saturday we had lunch with D Wop and her boy, I made a Valentines dinner, and then we went out with some pals for a big night on the town, on Sunday we met up again with D Wop, her boy, and her cousin for some karaoke, and on Monday we went to my friend's comedy show. Yesterday I made dinner, and then we high tailed it downtown for a work show. We've been busy, but it's been so great to have him here! Plus, it's been really fun for me to have someone to cook for. I really like cooking.
I can't wait for another long weekend. Unfortunately, I don't have another government-mandated one until May. So, that means I'm going to have to take some days off! I have it covered, though. What I really need is a day to sleep. I have been so tired these last few weeks. Like I have The Mono or something! Man, how embarrassing would it be to have to call in sick with The Mono when you're in your twenties or thirties? Ha, I can't imagine. I would totally make my doctor write a different excuse.

Happy Friday the 13th! I think it's great that this unlucky day falls the day before Valentines Day, a "holiday" that I'm sure many people find unlucky as well. I am very ambivalent about Valentines' Day, and while I'm sure a lot of you are thinking, "That’s because you have a boyfriend," I would like to say that we both feel that it's kind of silly to go out and spend a ton of money on an overpriced dinner. We do that all the time, anyway! So we will be eating at home, although we DID get each other presents, because we are 12 and like presents. And also because we are 12, we opened them last night instead of waiting until tomorrow. I got TB tickets to see Rufus Wainwright tonight, and I also got him the DVDs of all the Beatle performances on the Ed Sullivan Show. He got me a Joss Stone CD, a box of chocolates with NO NUTS, a fun video game thing that has five different games on it, a beautiful sweater, and a tape of songs he wrote me. Aw! He's the best boyfriend ever.
Yes, The Boyfriend is here! He's in the NYC for two weeks and I couldn't be happier about it. I'm so glad that we'll actually have time to really explore the city, not to mention time for him to meet my friends. We won't be rushed, which will make the whole trip so nice. I'm excited to have someone to try new places with! Yay for me! And of course, for him! Hee. Tomorrow, despite eating dinner at home, will be a busy day. D Wop will be in town with her beau, so we will be meeting them for lunch. Then we'll be grocery shopping for dinner. After dinner and dessert, we're meeting up with people for a fun night out of more eating, drinking, and possibly karaoke. Woo, karaoke! TB and I love the karaoke. We met at a drag queen karaoke bar, after all.
So, besides our busy Friday Night and Saturday, we will be pretty mellow for the rest of the weekend, which will be nice. I hit that wall this week where, no matter how much sleep I got each night, I still woke up tired and run-down. I can really use the day off on Monday. Hopefully I'm not getting sick. I think I'll sleep all day! Thank you, Dead Presidents! Speaking of Dead Presidents, I could really use some. Anyone out there want to give me any? I will design a kicky website for you for a low, low fee! Come one, you know you or someone you know want a sight designed by me. Don't you want a sight about your shoe collection? Your pet cat? Your jeans? I think you do. I'm going to design a site about Hardcore and her wiener.

The Boyfriend and I had a funny conversation the other day after he read my last entry.
The Boyfriend: You're so mad for JC! But you shouldn't be. He's a loser who f'ed Tara Reid.
plasticheather: dude, he didn't eff Tara Reid.
The Boyfriend: Um, yes he did. Many times.
plasticheather: Ky says he's gay. Although, he always says that about the famous people I have crushes on. He likes to break my spirit.
The Boyfriend: Dude. The tabs have many, many articles on JC and Tara Reid, yo!
plasticheather: I can not bide that! I would rather believe he's gay than believe he had sex with Tara Reid!
Come on, people! Isn't it better to think that JC will never love me than to think he did the nasty with that skanky chick?! The Boyfriend agrees with me.
So, fun weekend! Woodsy and Hardcore invaded the NYC and nothing will ever be the same! First of all, it is important to note that they brought me two food items that I had been intensely craving: Trader Joe's garlic pita chips, and a Baja Chicken Burrito. I can not tell you how happy that made me! My friends rock. I also got pleasure from parading the burrito around my office in front of every co-worker who is familiar with Baja Fresh. Anyway, I had such a blast with them. They were awesome, too. It was pouring rain on Friday but they still found their way around the city to sight see. On Saturday and Sunday we walked EVERYWHERE, and that was on very little sleep. Although, on Sunday we were all a few steps behind, and the colder temperatures and freezing wind did not help our tired bodies. I was so sad when they left! I tried to not cry...I was not successful. I miss my friends! Every last one of them. It was so nice to be with people who really knew me. I am so grateful that Woodsy and Hardcore took the time off from work and spent the money to come be with me. I love them!
We really did walk everywhere. Here is the run-down of what they saw: Barking Dog Cafe, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, MTV Studios, The Ed Sullivan Theatre, My friend's apartment, The Park Club, the 6, Q, N, R, and W line subways, Dylan's Candy Bar, Serendipity 3, Bloomingdale’s, The Plaza, Central Park, Tiffany, H&M, Saks Fifth Avenue, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Macy's, The Empire State Building, Herald Square, SoHo, China Town, Little Italy, Club Vudu, Bar Coastal, La Mia Pizza and the West Village. Not to mention my apartment, my grocery store, and my wine store! We went everywhere. Yet, I feel like there are still so many more places for me to take them. Next time! That's the great thing about New York City.
Continuing Hotel Heather, The Boyfriend gets here on Thursday! I can't wait! I love visitors. Then, after TB leaves, the following weekend I will be in Miami for a music conference, and after THAT I will be in LA for a week! Wee! So much to do in the next month, I can hardly stand it.

I have to talk about something that is extremely unfair. Everyone knows about what happened on Sunday during the football game. Now, Justin and Janet have issued apologies, and Janet won't be at the Grammys anymore and all of that. What baffles me is why the other members of *NSYNC are being punished. Oh yeah, that's right! I read this morning in the LA Times that, "The NFL dropped JC Chasez, a member of 'N Sync with Timberlake, from its halftime show at the Pro Bowl." What?! How does that make any sense? The Boyfriend pointed out that he does have a song with lyrics that say, "some girls dance with women." While that's true, I think it's pretty ridiculous that JC is being penalized. I hope he kicks the crap out of Justin. Ky just told me that he heard JC might be singing the National Anthem or some other pre-game song. Well, that'd better be true. But if I was him, I'd still smack Justin.
I was very excited to read that a Whole Foods Market has just opened a block from my office. I love giant markets like that. Plus, not only does it have the city's first Jamba Juice, but the market will also sell wine on Sundays! Regular markets here don't sell wine or hard alcohol, just beer. You have to go to a liquor store for that stuff, and liquor stores are closed on Sundays. I know, you're like, "New York? No booze on Sundays?" You can buy it in a bar on a Sunday, you just can't buy it in a store. It's weird. A co-worker and I went up to the market today, and it is HUGE. The biggest market I've ever been in in my life. It's 60,000 square feet! And, because it is the bottom floor of the brand new Time Warner Center that opened to the public today, it was PACKED. A pick-pocket's dream. Hmm, that gives me an idea.
In approximately 14 hours Woodsy and Hardcore will be here! And, in one week The Boyfriend will be here! And in eight days and 14 hours, D Wop will be here! It's going to be a great few weeks with so much home town goodness coming to visit. I still can't believe that the girls are all taking red-eye flights. Although, I would do it if I could, too. Luckily when I go to visit them I'm going back in time. That makes me think of that song from "Back to The Future." Gotta get BACK in time! Oh yeah.

Another day, another month. Man, so much has happened since I wrote a week ago. Of course, I have an opinion on the big hot-button issue that everyone is talking about. The shocking event that has rocked America. I'm talking about the damn Groundhog seeing its shadow two days ago. Damn it! I really don't think the East Coast needs six more weeks of winter. I'm so pissed. Although, I have to say, after last week's storm, the weather has been almost nice here. It rained yesterday, washing away all the nasty snow, and today it was 45 degrees! I walked around outside with my coat half-zipped, sans hat, gloves, and scarf! It was like a spring day compared to what we've had. Of course, it won't last as I am already hearing about two storms that will be hitting in the next couple of weeks. Whatever.
I had a nice weekend. I stayed in on Friday and Saturday. I needed to just chill, you know? On Thursday a guy from the office had a going away party, so I wasn't feeling my best on Friday, and then on Saturday I was just tired and achy. On Sunday I met up with some friends from work to watch the Super Bowl. One of my friends and I split a bet, and we ended up winning some money! I was sooo happy since, at that point, I had about 10 dollars to last me the whole week, INCLUDING the Super Bowl outing. It was enough to pay my tab there, buy a couple rounds, and buy myself dinner last night for Restaurant Week. Not too shabby.
I've been bored today. Yesterday and the day before I was very busy at work, but today it's been really slow. I think that as the week goes on, the days will go by slower...because Woodsy and Hardcore are coming to visit me! I can't wait, I'm so excited to have fun visitors. Tonight I will actually CLEAN MY APARTMENT in anticipation of their arrival. I hate cleaning, so they should feel special!
