January 2003

Notes

It's the last day of January, and it's 90 degrees outside. According to The Weather Channel, it only feels like 88 degrees. Okay, whatever, it's still hot out! It's a record-breaking here in California - the hottest January ever. Every time I think I want to live somewhere else, I get a reminder like this of how great So Cali is. I love the weather and how I can wear a skirt and flip flops year-round. Especially since all my co-workers in NYC are all bundled up! I love rubbing it in their faces. I know it's supposed to cool down a bit for the weekend, but I still can't complain about a 72 degree day in February. I'll go to the beach for sure! And I'll sit on my balcony with a drink in my hand, gaze at the beach, and be glad that I live where I do. American Idol ruled this week! I can't wait for the drama between Julia and Kimberly next week during the first round of eight, even though the producers are doing everything they can to manufacture a scene. I'll buy into it, even though I won't buy Coke or a Ford. TGIF!

Damn, is it only Thursday? I am so tired today, I don't get it. Work is picking up, so maybe that's why I actually feel like I did something at the end of the day. The time definitely flies by. I'm trying to think of ways to make this site a little cleaner. Hopefully I'll come up with something and have it implemented in February. I listened to the State of the Union on the radio while I was driving home from work on Tuesday. It is so hard to listen to. All the clapping! It made me crazy. I think I would have had more fun if I'd played this game. Although, I couldn't have played it while driving, but you get the point. I missed The Bachelorette last night, I'm going to watch it tonight on the Tivo. And I need to catch last night's A.I. 2. Lots to watch on the ol' telly! You know, I had a Jamba Juice earlier, and it had an energy boost in it. I'm not feeling very energetic! Maybe I'll sue or something.

Television tonight rules! So much drama and intrigue, and the last one electrified the nation! No, I'm not talking about American Idol 2! It's the State of the Union Address! And I'm so excited about watching it that I'm still sitting at my desk a mere 12 minutes before it starts! Um...so, obviously I'm kidding. I'll listen to it in my car, and it will annoy me, and then I'll put on my Dusty Springfield CD and sing along to "Son of a Preacher Man." And then, I will OF COURSE watch the aforementioned American Idol. As EVERY SINGLE DAMN COMMERCIAL BREAK ON EVERY SINGLE DAMN RADIO STATION has told me, tonight we will discover the identity of the worst singer in the world! Man, I'm on pins and needles. The biggest news over my weekend was that I got my car back! YAY! And then I got so drunk on Saturday that I couldn't drive it. But I did stare at it adoringly through my window. It's purty. Okay, no one is signing my board except for family members who were forced to do so. PLEASE sign it!!! I'll be your best friend! My stats say that people have been visiting...I just ask for concrete proof here, peeps! Gotta split, it's time for Georgie's speech.

I installed one of those crazy cursors on my page today. I don't know what possessed me to do this...maybe the 15 year-old-girl inside of me thought "Swirly lollipop! Pretty!" Anyway, your mouse arrow should look like a swirly purple lollipop...you know, because of the CANDY theme. Get it?!?! But only on this page because I'm too lazy to add the code to the other pages right now. And I don't know if I like it or not, anyway. If you don't have a swirly purple lollipop for a cursor, you can go to CometZone.Com and get the software. It's really easy. In other news, I bought my bought my bridesmaid shoes today. Well, I ordered them because they didn't have the right size for the color I needed. I will have them in six to eight weeks. Good thing I didn't procrastinate, or I would have been a barefoot bridesmaid. Or, I would have been a dead bridesmaid, because Tara would have killed me. Oh! I have been loving American Idol 2! I just love the bad auditions, I swear some of those people have sent me their demos in the past. I think Simon, Randy, & Paula are running out of insults, though. I can't wait for them to narrow it down to 30 so I can start voting. I am America, listen to what I have to say! And yes, I did vote during the last one - Kelly Clarkson won because of me and The Jackster. I STILL don't have my car back. The Iron Fist is lowering...

Message board is up! Message board is up! It's only taken me a million years to get it together. I'm sure no one will post for an equal amount of time, but at least I can be proud that I finished it. If anyone DOES want to post, however, the link is HERE. I'll be eternally grateful! I've also taken the step of actually listing this site with search engines. So, if you found this site through an engine, WELCOME! So, besides the site information, I just found out that my car, which is in the shop, won't be ready today. I was told it would be, and I'd made arrangements for getting it back. It wouldn't be such a big deal except that the accident was on December 19th, 34 days ago. So I'm pissed. I hate my rental car. I want MY car, dammit! Stupid bastards. But sign my board!!! SIGN IT!!!

Today is the Nine Year anniversary of the Northridge Earthquake, and the Eight Year anniversary of a big earthquake in some other country. I still remember waking up at my friend's house when the earthquake was happening. And then going back to sleep because I had no idea what was going on, only to be re-awakened by her father and sisters. We spent the rest of the night sleeping under the dining room table with our ears pressed to the ground, hearing the aftershocks before we could feel them. Some other bad stuff happened in history on this day...the Americans overthrew the Hawaiian Monarchy in 1893...those money-grubbing bastards! And Carole Lombard died in a plane crash in 1942...poor Clark Gable. I know some other bad stuff happened, but I don't remember off the top of my head. I usually stay low-pro on this day. I just feel like it's cursed. This year, though, it's the Friday of a three-day weekend. So at least it has that going for it. Lots of plans for the weekend: parties, brunches, bars, it's madness, I tell you!

I'm having one of those days. Today, it's an unproductive one. I'm all spacey and I keep making stupid mistakes on my work. I can't answer simple questions like, "What time will you get here?" It's all gibberish! I'm sure it will pass, and tomorrow will become one of those days where I trip a lot or something. Last night I was asked by the owner of the bar I used to work at if I could help them run a promo. The girl who was supposed to run it didn't show up. The owner said if I did it, he'd give me a $30 tab for food and drinks, or 20 bucks cash money. I'm no fool, I took the tab. Anyway, I said I would help them out. All I had to do was walk around the place for an hour gathering up patrons' names and email addresses for a drawing to win a free bar tab. Easy as pie, I used to run stuff like that all the time when I worked there. So I did my thing, gathering up entries, when the girl showed up. And not just any girl. Brynn from The Real World, Las Vegas. I didn't realize that I was working her job until I was done and the owner told me. So, I totally stole Brynn's gig, AND the owner said that I did a good job and I could help them next week, too. I'll see about that. I don't want to mess with Brynn, she's tough. And I like her, from what I've seen on RW. But, I like getting bar tabs, too.

So, remember in my last entry when I said I had a chest cold? If you don't, scroll down a little bit. Anyway, when I said that I didn't feel that bad, my cold got mad and swore revenge. It kicked my ass pretty hard - I left work early on Thursday and didn't come in at all on Friday. Rest and liquids were high on my to-do list for the weekend. Now, finally, I think I have finally beaten the cold. I still have a cough, but that will probably be gone by the weekend...I hope! Even with my cold, I got in some quality Karaoke time at Queen Mary last Wednesday. Although, as The Boyfriend so rightly pointed out, many people there hate us now. We come in a big, obnoxious group that's loud, and we dance and scream for each other and no one else. But, the MC, Boots, loves us. I think s/he would be sad if we never came back. I think we will, eventually. But we have to mix it up a little. The people there just don't appreciate a good rendition of "Sk8r Boi." I have finally updated the links section, and the latest section will be updated tomorrow. So check those out if you feel like it. Or not! It's no skin off my nose. But I bet you check now.

Sigh. I have a chest cold. I guess there are two ways to look at it: 1) I can either be pissed that I got sick AS SOON as I had to return to work, thereby missing plenty of free days to relax and recover; or 2) I can be glad that I got sick after I had a great vacation that was germ-free. I think I will elect option 2. So now I'm sitting at my desk with a very sexy cough - think barking seal - that has managed to scare everyone within a 25 foot radius of my office. People keep telling me to go home, and I say, "Oh, no, I can't, I have too much to do...besides, I don't feel that bad." It makes me look like such a little trooper! Anyway, I'm getting paid, so whateves! And I do have work to do...all I need is my stash of Alpine Spiced Apple Cider to get through the day. I love that stuff. And someone very wise recommended that I take Echinacea, and that has really helped. I finally got the estimate for my car repairs today. $2,856.07. That's as much as it cost to replace my ENTIRE front end in my last accident, and that damage was just cosmetic. This damage was keeping stuff from working properly. This just goes to show that I know nothing about cars. My body shop hates me. I've called them six times in the last two days. But I wanted my estimate, and I wanted to know how long it was going to take. The Bored Receptionist told me it would take between a week and a half to two weeks. Which means three. Awesome. I just love my gas-guzzling-no-CD-player white 4-door Chevy Malibu. Yes, they still makes those. No, they still shouldn't. I want MY car. The Grammy Nominations came out today. Don't even get me started. The ceremony is going to look like TRL. That's it for now. New Buffy tonight! Yay! I leave you with Mr. Blackwell's list of the Worst Dressed of 2002, sent to me by the Always Fabulous Hardcore. It's...interesting.

Happy New Year!

My time away from the site is finally over. I know my adoring public of three people have missed my site updates very much. I had a very eventful time away from the site. I was in a car accident, went to an engagement party, received several nice Christmas presents, "vacationed" in Miami, and almost started fights with two grown men. Among other things. I think this picture sums up my state of mind right now, being back at work for the first time in two weeks. As Joey would say imitating Chandler, 'Could I BE wearing any more clothes?' I was unpacking in Miami...and really, the point of the outfit is not as important as the tears of happiness it brought to the eyes of one Les, aged 23. She prefers seeing me with many layers of clothing on as opposed to when I used to fall down while changing in the room we used to share. A little too much of me, if you know what I mean. I'm a big klutz. My next essay will be posted this week about my time off. I'm also finally adding some of my favorite links, and my old notes and essays can be found in the archives section. And for those of you who are lucky enough to get the link, I'm posting pictures from my vacation. If you feel as though you ARE lucky and deserving and righteous but didn't get the emailed link, drop me a line and plead your case. I'm feeling generous in the new year.

The Latest...Then

January 16th, 2003

Music - Well, here's the thing. Since my car is in the shop, I'm driving a rental. And my rental only has a tape deck. I didn't know cars still had those! I got all of these great CDs for Christmas, and I haven't really listened to any of them as much as I would like. So I'm doing a lot of radio listening. I'm slightly obsessed with "03 Bonnie & Clyde" by Jay Z and Beyonce. I don't know what it is, I'm such a sucker for hip hop. And, I'm loving the new unreleased debut by Mindi Abair, It Just Happens That Way. It's really awesome. It comes out February 25th, but you can hear snips of songs on her website. Check it out.

Television - I've been watching "Joe Millionaire," but it just is not keeping my interest. I've also been watching "The Bachelorette," which I have found to be far more interesting than its predecessors. It seems to me like the guys are less about love and more about winning. And, next week, oh woo ooh woo ooh! AMERICAN IDOL! I will be posting my thoughts on the contestants. I just know it's going to be great. I hope I'm not let down! And more importantly, I hope that the winner gets better singles than Kelly Clarkson did. And I hope that Kelly's album is good. I came across >this website today...I don't know if I'm disturbed by it or what. I did enter to win, though.

Books - I read in the LA Times this morning that the fifth installment of the Harry Potter series is coming out June 21st. I'm looking forward to that, I think those books are fantastic. I'm a kid at heart, what can I say? My roommate keeps telling me that she has a bunch of books for me, so I plan to be reading a book soon. Other than that, it's all about In Style, Rolling Stone, People, Entertainment Weekly. And the LA Times, of course.

Wedding Watch - I made it through the Engagement party without crying! Yay for me! I think that was an important step. In the last few weeks, the Bride and us Bridesmaids bought our dresses. Dresses! It made it feel real. Well, sort of. My dress is two pieces, and the store didn't have both pieces in my size in the same color. So I looked a little funny trying on a blue skirt with a red top. I think when I have the whole outfit, that will make it complete for me. The Bachelorette party is in July - only 6 months away! I'm already starting to plan it.
