Obviously. That's because I have been posting on another blog. A family blog, if you will. I have a mug that holds three cups of coffee, and I know that because I ONCE made that many cups. Nowadays, I always stick to two cups, but the mug is big. This happened this morning. I said to the person, "it's just two cups." And he said back, "It's not good for you." Shut up! I stared at him as he made himself a cup of coffee before going back to my desk. Damn hypocrite.

It's really freaking hot here in LA, like the rest of the country. For some reason, our house is set up so that the air conditioning only reaches the front rooms. The two bedrooms don't get any air at all. It's MISERABLE at night. The Fiancé has a higher body temperature than I do, and he tosses and turns all night. I feel so bad for him. Usually, my temperature drops at night, but lately that hasn't mattered. We have fans going full blast and that helps, but it isn't great. Probably because Rigby goes and sleeps in front of it! Poor puppy, she is suffering the most with all that fur! After I got home from work yesterday, TF and I went to the grocery store. Now THAT is the place to be when it's 105 degrees outside! I was positively shivering.

Work has been brutal lately. We're mired in a terrible slump, having won only one game since July 13. It's bad timing from a sales standpoint, but being a fan of the team, too, it's just killing me. On Saturday I helped out at a baseball clinic at the stadium for women and kids, and it was unbearably hot. The group around the water coolers was bigger than any group I was instructing! By the time I got home, I had a horrible headache. I don't know how I was able to play three softball games in that heat back when I was a kid.

Next week The Fiancé and I are going to Hawaii for Cat's wedding! I have finally let myself get excited about it. I didn't want to think about it for the longest time because whenever I look forward to something, time slows to a standstill. I just can't believe that it's already the end of July! Where has summer gone? I don't even have a tan.

Chris Walsh Sucks

I should be sleeping

Do you ever have one of those mornings where you quickly realize that you shouldn't have gotten out of bed? I had one of those today. Actually, since it's only 10:18 am when I'm starting this, I'd say I'm still in it. I should be careful with my big cup of coffee.

It started with me waking up at 5:42 am. Yep, you read that right. I wanted to hit the gym before I went to work. The first thing that greeted me was the LOUD, OBNOXIOUS buzzer that's on our oven. Yesterday, the Fiancé and I gave in and hired a maid service to come clean our dismal house. One of the maids hit something on our oven and now the buzzer is constantly going off. We can't figure out how to make it stop and it sounds like a fire alarm. I fiddled with it a bit, going deaf in the process, and then quickly got dressed, grabbed my keys, and left for the gym. Except, as I realized when I got down to my car, I had grabbed The fiancé’s keys instead of my own. I briefly considered taking his car to the gym, but I decided against it. We have tandem parking and I was parked behind him. He’s an expert at getting his car out of that position, but I’m not. As I write this, I realize how much worse my morning would have been if I’d taken his car. But I digress.

I got to the gym and started looking for street parking. Call me cheap, but I think it’s ridiculous that I have to pay to park every time I go to the gym. I’m already paying to belong to the gym, I think they can make their lot free! I saw a person get in their car and pull away from the curb, so I quickly swooped in and took their old spot. Sweet! I had a good workout, I’m trying to get back into my old habits from when I lived in NYC, I worked out HARD every morning before work. I kicked my own ass this morning, and I was feeling pretty good about myself after my workout as I walked to my car. I was fiddling with my iPod, but I happened to look up and notice a cute red VW Bug up on a tow truck. I was running before my brain actually realized it was MY cute red VW Bug. SHIT.

It turns out, you can park in front of driveways! Most people learn that lesson before they even get their learner’s permit, but no, not me. The driveway I blocked is actually very wide. Part of it is fenced in, and that was the part that, when I parked, I thought I was in front of. But, I didn’t notice the driveway had a part that WASN’T fenced in. Really observant of me. As the tow truck driver pointed out, I got there when it was dark…kind of. I saw the person parked there before me leave and I didn’t think twice about it. They were lucky, I wasn’t. Although, it could have been a lot worse. The driver was about a minute away from driving off, and I would have been TOTALLY SCREWED. My wallet and cell phone were both in the car. The Fiancé was about to leave for work and was outside taking Rigby to the bathroom, so if I’d called from the gym I wouldn’t have reached him.

My lovely mistake cost $144 to tow truck driver and $40 to the city, thanks to the parking ticket I also received. I spent $184 before 7 am.

Blaine

He could only hold his breath for 7 minutes and 8 seconds? What a pussy.

I fast-forwarded through most of his "special," but I was very happy to see him do some ACTUAL magic in some pre-recorded bits. I, like Michael Jackson, believe his magic is real.

Trips

My brother is in London right now and I'm so jealous. I'm really happy and excited for him, he's never been to Europe before and based on the two emails he's sent me, he's having a blast. I went to London seven years ago (wow, that long?!) with my mom, and it was amazing. We started by visiting T in Germany, where she was studying abroad. We traveled around with her for a few days, then headed to England. It was such a great experience. I mentioned to one of my coworkers today how I was jealous of my brother, and he rightfully pointed out that I will be going on my honeymoon soon enough. Now, if only The Fiancé and I could figure out exactly what we wanted to do.

David Blaine is going to hold his breath tonight for almost nine minutes. How is that a magic trick? The Fiancé and I watched one of David Blaine's magic specials a few months ago and that dude could do crazy stuff! I'm not really digging his stupid stunts. Don't worry, though, The Fiancé asked me to Tivo the breath-holding spectacular, so I'm sure I'll be watching it later. I can't wait to fast-forward through it.

The details!

Okay, here's the scoop on my engagement night. We went to dinner for Valentines Day. We went to One Pico, which is a restaurant on the beach in Santa Monica that I have ALWAYS wanted to go to. It’s in the Shutters Hotel. When we pulled up, Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruz were outside waiting for their car, and Britney and Kevin’s Ferrari was parked in the front. We were totally laughing about it going in, like, hello Hollywood! Dinner was great, and after we were done he suggested that we go for a walk. So, being a girl, at that point I knew! Heh. We walked toward the Santa Monica pier and when we got out on the sand he said all these wonderful things and then he proposed! It was perfect. He gave me an Asscher cut solitaire that he set in 18 k gold to match my Great Grandmother’s wedding band that has been passed down to me. He got the ring from my mom and took it to the jewelry store to make sure it matched!

Our anniversary is December 16, which just so happens to fall on a Saturday this year. It works out perfectly with our schedules since his school will be on winter break, and there is no baseball in December! So that’s the date we’re getting married!

Beer on the Wall

I just heard on the radio that the average American drinks twenty two GALLONS of beer every year! That's 2,816 ounces of beer. It seems like a lot, but then you realize it's 235 cans, or about 10 cases. The Fiancé and I just killed three cases a couple weeks ago! Hmm...now that I think about it, we're probably on the high end of the spectrum. Well, that's why twenty two is the average.

When I was driving back from have lunch with my bro (and when I heard that lovely factoid about beer), I was next to a somewhat odd looking car. It had been modified some, and as it passed me I thought, "I wonder what kind of car that is." I glanced at it's back bumper and there, in script, the owner had thoughtfully painted, "Eighty-Nine Sentra." Aw, thanks.

It's not hard, ladies!

There is nothing more disgusting than running into the ladies' room when you've been holding it for a while, only to find that all the toilet seats have URINE on them. Yeah.

I was updating for a while via email, and everything was peachy! A little TOO peachy. Then Woodsy was like, "hey, you haven't updated in a while," and I was like, "yes I have." And then she told me that there wasn't an update up since November! Now, I have a tendency to slack, but I hadn't slacked that hard! So somewhere along the way, Blogger decided it didn't want to post my email updates. Fucker! So, I'm going to have to track those down and re-post them.

In the meantime, here is a brief rundown of what's happened to me since November:

I celebrated my 3-year anniversary with The Boyfriend in NYC. It was great! Then we rang in the New Year in San Fran. Good times.

I got promoted. Yay!

I got engaged! YAY!!!

I bought a new car!

I broke my shoe at work today.

I think that about covers it.

No, I didn't.

Did I REALLY need that final beer last night?

Little Bits...

So, as I mentioned in my last post, I was in a car accident. I'm okay, as was everyone else involved. I was stopped at a light waiting to make a left-hand turn out of a parking lot when a young girl slammed into me from behind, pushing me into the car in front of me. Her fault, no? Well, the guy in front of me, according to my insurance company, is trying to claim that we BOTH hit him. I think he saw our cars (a Jeep and some sort of SUV) and thought, "$$$$!" Well, the joke's on you, ASS, because I only make seven bucks an hour! Anyway, I've been stiff but otherwise physically fine. The Boyfriend's car has almost $4000 worth of damage so it is less fine, but it's getting fixed so it's cool. It's just a hassle, although mostly for TB, who has to drive a rental car around now. I'm currently driving his super-pimp 1987 Jaguar. Shaguar, baby!

Yes, I need to buy my own car.

There is a lot of construction going on here at my workplace. My Favorite Sports Team is doing some facility renovation and it is SO LOUD. The hammering, drilling, and general noises of destruction are pretty hard to ignore, especially when 95% of my job requires me to be on the phone talking to clients. The noises are drilling into my brain! Ugh.

DAMN IT!!!

I just wrote a really long, detailed post about a car accident I was in on Tuesday, and FUCKING BLOGGER messed up and lost it. Also, my office implemented a new software blocker and monitoring system, so I wanted to be a little careful about what I did on the computer. You never know who's watching! Dude, what if they just took a screencap of this right now? That would suck.

The last week of the season for My Favorite Sports Team was extremely hectic. I worked late every other day, which meant worked about 65 hours that week. The last home game brought mixed emotions. On the one hand, I was happy to not have crazy hours for the next 5 months or so. On the other hand, the season is over! At least I still have football.

This past Saturday, Matty and Les got married! It was a beautiful ceremony and the wedding was a blast. Les and her bridesmaids (me included) got ready for the wedding while we watched college football on a television that had been set up in our courtesy suite. Everyone that came into our room commented on the group of girls watching football. We were like, what's your point? Then the USC game came on at 12:30 and major screaming commenced. It was extremely hard for me to not swear during such a crappy display of football, but I think I did a good job - I had to make sure Les's family didn't think I was a dirty sailor. The wedding was supposed to start at 4:30 but the game ran over 4 hours, so the start was a little delayed. We couldn't leave before we knew the outcome! And besides that, Les knew that all her friends would be in the hotel bar watching the end of the game, not waiting for her to walk down the aisle! The wedding coordinator told us that we were screaming louder than the groom and his friends. Damn straight. We take our football seriously.

The weekend before Les and Matty's wedding, The Boyfriend and I took Rigby to a dog groomer by my parents' house. Rigby is a little tomboy who is always getting into things, so her fur was just a mess of dirt and knots. I told the groomer that I wanted her fur to be cut down really short, since she also HATES to stand still long enough to allow me to brush her fur. The groomer confirmed that the knots would necessitate a close cut. TB was worried that her comments meant that Rigby would come out with a buzz...and he was right. I went to pick her up later, and when I walked into the shop I noticed a cute little terrier on the table behind the counter...and then I noticed that it was wearing my dog's collar...and that it was MY DOG. Rigby looked so completely different, and when she spotted me she gave me a look as if to say, "They've cut my beautiful hair!" I present a before and after:

...........
Pre-Grooming............................................Post-Grooming

She looks like a completely different dog! I swear, she was depressed about her haircut for a few days, but now she's back to being her usual playful self. And she's much happier not needed to get brushed every day, which makes me happy, too.

Sick Day

I called in sick to work yesterday. I hate to call in sick, mostly because I don't get sick days and I work on commission. So when I don't go into work, I miss out twice - no hourly wage and no sales. But with all the madness of fall, and with Les and Matty's wedding in a week, I figured I should bite the bullet and spend a day getting well, rather than dragging it out for weeks. I definitely feel better today, so I know I made the right decision. Now I just need to make up for my day off on the sales board! It's hard to get back into the swing of things.

While I was lying prone on the couch, I decided to make the best of my time and I uploaded a TON of photos to my new hosting site. The Boyfriend's brother-in-law hooked me up with a free account at Flickr.com back in June and I hadn't taken advantage of it. It has an extremely easy uploading tool, so I spent a few hours transferring photos off of my laptop. I also had NINE CDs worth of photos to upload from my old work computer in New York City. Those nine CDs were filled with pretty much every photo I had taken since I moved to NYC...in other words, a butt-load. It was fun to go through all those memories. Now I have the monumental task of adding captions, but that's going to take a while.

In the past I've always put my photos up on my site where anyone could see them. I never really had an issue with strangers or weirdoes looking at them because I could just pretend to myself that anyone who looked at them was my friend, or at least someone who read my site. Then yesterday, as I was tooling around on the Flickr site, I saw that there were links that would let me look at my most popular photos, sorted into four categories: Most Views, Most "Favorited," Most Comments, and Most Interesting. So, even though I hadn't told anyone I'd uploaded photos, I clicked on the "most comments" link. There, I discovered that RANDOM PEOPLE had made comments on some of my photos!!! For example, there was a comment made about a picture of me and two of my friends, a comment made about the Halloween costumes Kimbrough and her roommates wore, and a bunch of others. Creepy! At that point, I was grossed out. Like I said, I was always able to pretend in the past that only friends and website readers looked at my photos, but with the random comments there was no way I could go on with that little lie. So I went through all of the photos and made it so that only friends and family can look at the pictures. To be considered friends and family, I have to invite you through the Flickr.com website. Right now I have left some pictures available to the public, but for the most part all my pictures are private. That being said, if you want to look at my pictures I would be happy to make you a friend! That game was boring! But I'll take the boring games any day, especially since the next few games for USC are going to be brutal! I had a lot of fun tailgating with my friends before the game. We got there five hours early and we BARELY made it onto the lawn we usually park on. I think they let about 15 cars in after us. It looks like we'll always have to get there absurdly early if we want to park in our usual spot. Now that I have one tailgate out of the way, I know the things I need to bring to "upgrade" our experience. My parents are coming to the next home game with us, so I charged them with figuring out how to bring a TV. Should be fun! I also have to get a canopy thing. My friend Ohio surprised me at work today with a USC folding chair! I thought that was pretty nice of him. He said he got it at Sav-On, so I have to go there to get another one for The Boyfriend.

In other news, I am a bit under the weather. It seems like a lot of people are right now. I'm mostly stuffed up in my sinuses with just a little cough. Yesterday I was absolutely miserable, but today I feel better - thank you, Sudafed! And that you TB for getting the Sudafed for me! The only unfortunate side effect from the medicine is it makes me a little out of it. I have been trying to talk to clients today and I have made very little sense. I even left the wrong number for someone on a voicemail! So I've decided to take it easy for the rest of the day and try to avoid situations where I'm going to look stupid.

Speaking of situations where I'm going to look stupid, I'm going back to my old sorority tonight to talk to the actives about "life after college." Ha! What I want to tell them all is to goof off for as long as possible, but something tells me that would be frowned upon. I have a few friends that are going, which is why I am attending, so hopefully one of them will go first. I have no idea what I will say in my awesome drugged state.

USC Trojans Football Game Day!

 Puppy Quarterback,
originally uploaded by Plastic Heather.
I'm watching College Game day on ESPN right now. The Boyfriend had class at 8am this morning (yes, on a Saturday - and it goes until 5PM), so I'm wide awake...and getting excited.

I've been backing up all of my music and photos onto a new external network hard drive that I got for TB and myself, and I came across this picture. In a moment of weakness, I put Rigby in a little USC jersey that I'd bought for The Boyfriend's nephew. Sometimes, I go loopy. Anyway, it's a good picture for today!
Survivor!

I didn't watch Survivor last season...too many things on at that time. But this year I have re-evaluated my Thursday night priorities, and I have returned to Survivor. So far, it seems like it will be pretty interesting. I know that my parents and brother used to wax on about Steph, so I'm sure they're happy right now about her triumphant return.

Right now I'm trying to decide what I'm going to grill during tailgating before the USC/Arkansas game. I'm thinking about perhaps some chicken teriyaki, so I am trying to find an easy recipe for a teriyaki marinade that also sounds tasty. Not as easy as it sounds.

Website Issues

Well, just when I was ready to re-launch the site, I had major server issues. My hosting company is normally at my beck and call when these things happen, but of course this time they decided to take a little vacation. So, a few days later, here it finally is. The other thing that sucked about the server issues was that it meant I couldn't send or receive email. Email is the only way I can goof off at work! So I've been struggling this week.

So, I obviously haven't updated for a while. I got to the point where I was completely overwhelmed by work and personal commitments, and something had to give. Plus, here at work now my desk space is situated in such a way that everyone can see what I'm doing. If I was updating my website, everyone would know. That is part of the reason why I switched over to this new format - I can
update via email, so it looks like I'm doing work. It's soooo easy to update, I love it already. I have to figure out what I'm going to do with the archives...I will probably leave them the way they are for a while just because it's a huge undertaking. My next big project will be moving all of my pictures to an independent server. The Boyfriend's brother-in-law set me up with an awesome photo hosting account, so I am going to start using it.

In other news, work is going well. I'm still a bit in limbo since the season ends in a few weeks, but I've had some positive things happen lately. One was the upgrade in my work space - I am now in the main office, which is really cool, and I have an awesome flat-screen computer and a fancy telephone and headset. I'm still leading my division in sales, and I am leading the whole sales department in 2006 season sales. I'm just waiting now to see what's going to happen. I think I'm at the point now where I'm okay either way - I've done really well here, so I think I could get a good job elsewhere, should it come to that. I've just decided that I can't get stressed out about it anymore. The Boyfriend knows that I've lost many hours of sleep over all of it, even though it's really beyond my control. I just have to keep on keeping on, homies. So that's what I'm gonna do.

I had a great, insane summer. Lots of weddings and wedding-related activities, which I will get into in subsequent posts. I'm really excited for this weekend: It's the first USC home football game of the year. It's also the first USC game I've been to in a year, and the first home game I've been to in two years. I'm so pumped to see everyone and get my tailgate on. It's going to be different this year without alcohol being served inside the Coliseum...I really don't know how that's going to change people's pre-game drinking habits. I know that I usually bought one beer at half-time just to stave off any fourth quarter hang-overs, so I'm not really looking forward to that point in the game. I think a lot of people will get ridiculously drunk before the game starts, which is sort of counter-productive to what the USC President is trying to accomplish, but whatever! I'm more interested in seeing how people sneak booze into the Coliseum. I'll be taking notes.

the new template is almost there

Alright...I think I finally have the template looking fairly decent. I can't figure out where that smaller "plasticcandy" in the upper left corner is coming from, but I am too tired at this point to stress about it.
